About

The program was developed in 2017 and updated in 2022. The program is subject to annual updates prior to the beginning of each academic year.

The Bachelor’s Program in Computer Engineering is designed to prepare highly qualified computer engineering specialists equipped with broad knowledge of the design, development, and operation of computer hardware and software. To this end, the program provides students with comprehensive knowledge of computer hardware, electronic devices, their technical characteristics, and the related physical processes, as well as with computational and engineering skills required to apply various approaches and methods. At the same time, the program aims to develop students’ professional competencies and prepare them for successful professional careers in computer engineering.

The academic staff of the Computer Engineering program comprises highly qualified professionals with experience gained at European and American higher education institutions. The program’s partner organizations include leading high-technology companies in the local market, as well as internationally recognized universities.

Program Educational Objectives

The aim of the bachelor program is to prepare highly qualified computer engineers who will be equipped with extensive knowledge in design, developing and operation of computer hardware, as well as in the development of computer software. To this end, it intends to well-pad its students with broad knowledge of computer hardware, electronic devices, their technical characteristics and related physical processes, as well as computational and engineering skills for using various ways and methods for their improvement. At the same time, the program aims to develop the professional skills of the students that will allow them to have successful careers in computer engineering.

Program Educational Objectives:

The objectives of the Computer Engineering program are to produce graduates who within 3-5 years after graduation, will be able to:

PEO1: Have a successful career, including leadership opportunities, in the computer engineering profession.

PEO2: Solve advanced technological problems and become technical leaders in their field of specialization.

PEO3: Continue learning through graduate courses, seminars, and research to stay current with the profession as it evolves and expands.

Student Outcomes

The program student outcomes aim at equipping students with:

SO1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics;
SO2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors;
SO3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences;
SO4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts;
SO5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives;
SO6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions;
SO7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

Program Structure

All students admitted to the bachelor program are required to accumulate 242 ECTS to be awarded their Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering.

8 Semesters, 242 ECTS (1 ECTS: 25 hours)

Free Component: General Module – 86 ECTS;
Major – 156 ECTS (including 36 ECTS electives).

About

The English-taught Bachelor’s Program in Computer Engineering (International) at the School of Technology of Ilia State University was developed in 2018. The program was developed taking into account the experience of leading educational institutions worldwide and universities in Georgia, as well as through close collaboration with the technology industry.

The quality assurance of the English-taught Bachelor’s Program in Computer Engineering (International) and the achievement of its educational objectives are subject to continuous monitoring, ensured through the program’s “continuous improvement” mechanism.

The aim of the Bachelor’s Program is to prepare highly qualified specialists in computer engineering who possess broad knowledge of the design, development, and operation of computer hardware and software. To this end, the program provides students with comprehensive knowledge of computer hardware, electronic devices, their technical characteristics, and related physical processes, as well as computational and engineering skills necessary to apply various approaches and methods. At the same time, the program aims to develop students’ professional competencies and prepare them for successful professional careers in computer engineering.

Accreditation

The Bachelor’s Program in Computer Engineering (International) has been accredited by the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE) for the period from February 1, 2022, to April 4, 2033 (Cluster Accreditation). The decision number is #151119, and the decision was issued on February 15, 2022. Information about the decision is available at the following link.

The Bachelor’s Program in Computer Engineering (International) is also accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The accreditation was awarded in accordance with the General Criteria and the Program Criteria for Electrical, Computer, Communications, Telecommunications, and Similarly Named Engineering Programs. The program has been accredited effective May 1, 2023. The next review visit is scheduled for the 2028–2029 accreditation cycle.
